BASKETBALL
The Basketball program was a foundation sport along with golf and volleyball. Basketball
has always been a hugely popular sport in Sunraysia with local juniors
regularly playing in local competition.
Further to this the Sunraysia region has two high profile basketball
teams competing at a semi elite level in the Mildura Heat
and the Mildura Lady Heat.
The basketball program currently delivers only the education and training
program. The basketball program is overseen by the Technical Director
of Coaching Joe Hurst who is supported by Assistant Coach & Program Manager Leanne Wright. The basketball program works on a
1:12 coach/athlete ratio with additional support from Specialist Coach Alan Morris.
The basketball program is based at the Nichols Point Primary School's brand new gymnasium.
2009 will see the creation of a brand new Advisory Panel, including representatives form the Mildura Basketball Association.
The advisory panel has also clearly defined the best pathway to continually
assist the athletes beyond their involvement with the SAS.
